Setting up a Direct Debit

Important information you need to know

Once submitted, Direct Debit requests will be processed within 48 hours (excluding weekends). We’ll let you know when this is completed, however requests may not be set up in time for your next payment due date. It’s important that you continue to make manual payments until your statement shows payment will be taken by Direct Debit to avoid missing a payment.

Before setting up your Direct Debit:

  • A Direct Debit must be in the name of the main account holder. Requests to set up a direct debit from a bank account held in a business or company name are not accepted. Joint personal bank accounts are accepted.
  • A full balance Direct Debit clears the whole outstanding statement balance, including any balance transfer amounts in full. So, if you are intending to use your credit card account for a balance transfer, a minimum payment or fixed amount should be selected.
  • If you only make the minimum payment each month, it will take you longer and cost you more to clear your balance.
  • If you select a fixed amount option, this can be for an amount set by you and can be changed at any time. If your minimum payment due is greater than this amount, we will claim the minimum payment. If your statement balance is lower than your fixed amount, we will only claim the balance on your statement.

When your Direct Debit is set up:

  • The date your Direct Debit claims will be shown on your statement, please ensure there are adequate funds available in your bank account. You must make at least the minimum payment each month, if you don’t you may be charged a fee and/or lose any promotional rate(s). Failure to make a payment may also affect your credit file as your credit card account will show in arrears until you make a payment to bring it back up to date.
  • You can make additional manual payments at any time. If you do this, we’ll assume you want to pay more than the minimum amount (or any fixed amount you’ve asked us to collect) and won’t adjust the Direct Debit payment amount shown on your statement unless this would take you into a credit balance.
  • If your Direct Debit has not claimed for 24 months, you will need to contact us to reinstate your Direct Debit before payments can resume.
