How to use the M&S Banking App to confirm online payments

The next time you’re shopping online, you might be asked to confirm it’s you when you check out and pay. If you’re a regular user of our banking app (you’ve signed in during the last few months), you’ll be asked to confirm your purchases within the app.

Banks are making some changes to help protect you against fraud.

The next time you’re shopping online, you might be asked to confirm it’s you when you check out and pay.

To do this you can use the M&S Banking App to verify your payment.

When paying for your online order, enter your M&S Credit Card details as usual.

Before you can complete the payment, a verification screen will pop up, with instructions on how you can confirm your identity using the M&S Banking App.

Don’t press the ‘Payment confirmed’ button until you’ve done this.

First, sign in to the M&S Banking App.

(If you are using a mobile you will need to come out of the checkout screen to open the App.)

A ‘confirm this payment’ screen will appear. If the details are correct, tap ‘confirm’.

Then verify it’s you by using your face, fingerprint or Digital PASS PIN.

Once you have confirmed your identity, return to the checkout to complete your order.

Now you can press the ‘Payment confirmed’ button and you’ll see a confirmation of your order on the checkout screen.

How to verify online payments using the M&S Banking App

  • Step 2: Don’t press the ‘Payment confirmed’ button on the verification screen straight away. Instead, come out of the checkout screen, open the M&S Banking App and sign in.
  • Step 3: A ‘Confirm this payment’ screen will appear. If the details are correct, tap ‘Confirm’. Then, verify it’s you by using your face, fingerprint or Digital PASS PIN.
  • Step 4: Once you have confirmed your identity, return to the checkout to complete your payment. Now you can press the ‘Payment confirmed’ button on the checkout verification screen.

That’s it! You’ll see a confirmation of your payment on the checkout screen.

Why are you adding in these extra checks and how will they benefit me?

Changes to online card payments are being introduced due to new Payment Services Regulations. This additional level of verification has been designed to help protect you from card fraud, and make it harder for fraudsters to make payments without your knowledge.

How do I review and update my contact details?

Simply sign in to Internet banking and select "My Details and Preferences" on the left hand side. Choose what you wish to update and follow the instructions. You can also update your contact details by calling us on 0345 600 5860*. Lines are open 8am-8pm.
