Card options
All of our M&S Credit Cards are sent as a CHIP & PIN card. If this isn’t suitable for you, we can send you a signature card instead where you will need to sign for each transaction you make. Get in touch to request a signature card.
Contactless
This is where you can pay for items up to £100 in stores without having to enter your PIN. All of our cards will work at contactless readers throughout the UK, all you need to do is tap your card against the card machine wherever you see the contactless logo.
For security reasons, sometimes you will be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN.

Digital Wallet
Like using a contactless card, you can now use your compatible smartphone to pay for purchases without having to use your card or a PIN. You can make payments over £100 using your mobile phone, but some retailers will have their own limits in place and may ask for you to insert your card and enter your PIN.

M&S PASS and card reader options
By downloading our mobile banking app on your mobile or tablet, you’ll be able to use the accessibility settings on your device to support you in accessing the digital M&S PASS (so that you can access your Internet Banking) and use the app to approve any online payments you make (instead of using a card reader). If you’re unable to use our mobile banking app, take a look at the alternatives we have available to support you.
What’s the difference between the M&S PASS and the M&S Card Reader?
The M&S PASS provides an additional layer of security when you use our digital banking services by generating a unique security code to let us know it’s you that’s accessing your accounts and nobody else. The M&S PASS can be accessed digitally in our M&S Banking App or with a physical device that looks like a mini calculator.
Our card reader is one method used to confirm any online payments you make so that we know it’s really you making the payment. If you’re unable to confirm your payments using the app or via text message, you can use our alternative card reader solution to verify your payments. This is where you insert your M&S Credit Card into the card reader and follow the instructions on screen to produce a one-time passcode that will allow you to complete your payment.
M&S PASS options
The standard physical M&S PASS is like a mini calculator and is about 7cm x 4.5cm in size.
If this isn’t suitable, we can send you a large one. It works like the standard M&S PASS, but is much larger in size and has audio support. The number five button has two raised dots on it and the ‘enter’ and ‘on’ button has a single raised dot on it to help navigate the buttons. The large one also has a square button on the bottom left and a circle button on the bottom right. The square shape is another way to identify the ‘fuchsia’ button and the circle shape is another way to identify the ‘green’ button to assist anyone who may be colour blind.
To order your large M&S PASS, get in touch with us.
Card reader options
The standard card reader is a small handheld device where you can insert your card into the top of it and is about 9cm x 6.5cm in size.
If this isn’t suitable, you can approve online payments by receiving a code via text-message or we can send you a larger card reader with audio support. To update your mobile number or order an audio card reader, get in touch with us.
