Pay your credit card by Direct Debit

Set up a Direct Debit

You can set up a Direct Debit through Internet Banking.

Sign in or Register

A step by step guide to setting up a Direct Debit in Internet Banking:

  1. Sign in and select 'Set up a Direct Debit' under 'Quick links'
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen to submit your setup request

Alternatively, if you're not yet set up for Internet Banking you can complete our Direct Debit form below.

You'll need your account details to hand including your M&S Credit Card account number and the details of the account you wish for us to take the payment from.

Set up Direct Debit

Please ensure you continue to make payments until you receive confirmation of your first Direct Debit date. A fixed repayment will be for an amount set by you and can be changed at any time. If the minimum payment due is greater than this amount, we will claim the full minimum payment. If your statement balance is lower than your fixed amount, we will only claim the balance on your statement.

Amend an existing Direct Debit

Credit card customers can change their Direct Debit using our online form in the following ways:

  • from a minimum to a full payment or fixed payment
  • from a full to a minimum payment or fixed payment
  • from a fixed to a full, minimum or another fixed payment

To request this, you can fill out our online form - you'll need your account details to hand including your credit card or account number and you'll also need details of your existing Direct Debit. This information can be found on your digital or paper statement.

Important information

  • If you have a Direct Debit set up to take your minimum payment, the payment shown on your statement (or your remaining balance if lower) will be collected automatically. If you’ve made any extra payments, we’ll assume you want to pay more than the minimum amount (or any fixed amount you’ve asked us to collect) and won’t adjust your Direct Debit.
  • If you only make the minimum payment each month, it will take you longer and cost you more to clear your balance.
  • If you've previously had a Direct Debit set up but it has not claimed for over a year, you will need to set up a new Direct Debit instead.

How to change the payment date, payment amount, reinstate or cancel your Direct Debit

You can use our 'Chat with us' service in our app or Internet Banking to change the payment date or amount or to reinstate or cancel your Direct Debit. Alternatively, if you aren't registered for digital banking, you can call us on 0345 900 0900 8am - 8pm, Monday to Sunday and one of our team will be able to help you.

What is a Direct Debit?

A Direct Debit is a convenient and easy way to pay your M&S Credit Card account. You just tell us how much you'd like to pay towards you credit card each month and we will automatically take the funds from your nominated account providing there are sufficient funds available. We have three Direct Debit options to choose from to keep you in control of your account:

Minimum Payments - A great option if you want to avoid a missed or late payment. You can make additional payments on top of your Direct Debit if you choose to.

Fixed Payments - Choosing a fixed amount gives you the control of knowing how much you'll pay every month and the amount can be changed at any time. If the minimum payment due is greater than the fixed amount you've set, we will claim the minimum payment.

Full Payments - For customers who want to clear their balance every month, a full payment will clear your balance each month.

All Direct Debits are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee so if there's ever a problem we'll put it right. You are also able to amend or cancel your Direct Debit at any time. If your statement balance is lower than your fixed amount, we will only claim the balance on your statement.

Need help with your Direct Debit?

There may be times where activity on your account impacts the amount your Direct Debit will claim. Use this section to understand when this might happen.

When does my Direct Debit start claiming?

A Direct Debit starts claiming 6 calendar days before it is due. These 6 days are made up by counting back from (and including) the payment due date which is shown on your statement. For example, if your Direct Debit was due on the 6th of the month, it would begin claiming on the 1st.

Will additional payments (such as a payment via bank transfer) change the amount my Direct Debit will claim?

We will only adjust your Direct Debit from the amount shown on your statement if you have cleared the balance in full or claiming the amount would put the account into credit (providing the payment has cleared on to your account before your Direct Debit starts claiming).

Will refunds class as a payment to my account?

No, refunds only impact the amount your Direct Debit will claim if they have cleared on to your account before your Direct Debit starts claiming and would take your account into credit. Otherwise, we will still claim the amount on your last statement.
