Got a question about the M&S Currency Account? Here’s a list of our FAQs:
How to use the M&S Currency Account
How can I add and spend money using my M&S Currency Account?
You can add British Pounds (GBP) into your M&S Currency Account from your bank account. You’ll find your currency account details in the M&S Bank app. Once you hold GBP in your currency account you can choose to convert into any of the supported currencies. Alternatively, keep your money in GBP, use your card in over 200 countries, wherever VISA is accepted, and the conversion will happen automatically as you spend.
What exchange rate will I get when I use my M&S Currency Account?
When you convert balances in your M&S Currency Account, we use our M&S Currency Account Exchange Rate. This rate includes the current market rate plus a mark-up, which you’ll see in the M&S Bank app when making a conversion. The mark-up can change depending on the currencies, the amount, and whether the markets are open.
If you already have enough funds in the currency you’re spending, there’s no conversion needed. If you make a payment in a currency not supported by your account, VISA will convert it to GBP using their own exchange rate.
What are the fees?
There are no transaction fees for using the M&S Currency Account, so we will not charge you for making an ATM withdrawal or using your debit card. When you convert from one currency to another within the account, we’ll apply the M&S Currency Account Exchange Rate which is made up of the market exchange rate plus our mark-up. If you leave your money in GBP, when you spend or withdraw cash in a different currency, the card scheme (for example VISA) will process the transaction using their exchange rate, which will include any mark-up they apply. When withdrawing from an ATM, the cash machine provider may apply a charge.
What limits apply to my M&S Currency Account?
As long as you have enough money in your account, you can:
- Spend up to £20,000 each day using your M&S Currency Account debit card or the equivalent across all your currency balances.
- You can withdraw up to £500 in cash each day from your M&S Currency Account or the equivalent across all your currency balances.
- The maximum balance you can hold is £60,000 (or the equivalent across all your currency balances).
